Why does EV charger installation cost differ from home to home?
Published

EV charger installation costs differ because the circuit type, cable length, meter size and service area differ from home to home. The core safety equipment, a dedicated breaker, an RCD Type B and grounding, is included in every home and never removed to cut the price.
What makes installation costs differ?
| Factor | Why it affects the price |
|---|---|
| Circuit type | Circuit 1 runs directly from the main panel with a larger cable · Circuit 2 separates the charger from the existing house wiring |
| Cable length | The farther the charger is from the panel, the more cable, conduit and labour |
| Meter and existing panel | Small meters or full panels may need upgrades first |
| Wall and cable route | Surface-mounted, in conduit, through walls or across a carport take different time |
| Service area | Areas outside the main service area have an extra travel fee |
How do circuit 1 and circuit 2 differ in cost?
Circuit 1 runs directly from the main panel to the charger. It suits homes with a 5/100 or 30/100 meter or larger and uses 35 sq.mm cable or larger. Circuit 2 separates the charger from the house wiring without upgrading the meter and uses 16 sq.mm cable. Both use a dedicated 40A breaker, an RCD Type B and grounding. Full details: Circuit 1 vs circuit 2.
Is it cheaper if I already have a circuit?
Much cheaper, if the existing circuit is ready to use, for example when replacing a charger or a broken unit. In that case you only pay the charger price and our team installs it (within the service area). We ask for photos of the site, the existing circuit and the old charger via LINE to confirm before booking a technician.
