What Do You Need to Install an EV Charger at Home? A Complete Step-by-Step Guide for 2026
Published · Updated

Once you've bought an EV, the next question everyone asks is "Is it hard to install an EV charger at home, and what do I need to prepare?" This guide answers both, from the first step to charging your car on day one.
Before installation — check these 4 things first
1. Is your home supply 1 phase or 3 phase?
This is the first thing to know. Check the main switch box at the front of the house or the distribution board inside:
- 1 phase (220V) — most homes; supports chargers up to 7.4 kW
- 3 phase (380V) — larger homes or buildings with a 3-phase meter; supports 11–22 kW chargers
Not sure? Send a photo of your distribution board to the EV Easy team on LINE: @eveasy
2. Where is your parking spot?
The parking position directly affects the cable cost: a short run costs less, a long run costs more. Our installation packages include up to 15 metres of cable — see the installation package table. The team always confirms the price before work starts.
3. Is there a spare circuit in the main board?
An EV charger needs its own dedicated circuit for safety. If the main board is full it may need to be extended, and the team will always quote this in advance. See circuit 1 vs circuit 2.
4. Smart charger or standard?
- Standard charger — plug in and charge; lower price; suits most users
- Smart charger (app control) — schedule charging, view statistics and control it from your phone
How is an EV charger installed at home?
Step 1: Advice and choosing a model
Contact EV Easy Thailand with your car model, electrical supply and budget, and the team will recommend a model that suits your home and usage.
Step 2: Send site photos or a video for a quote
Send photos or a video on LINE @eveasy showing:
- The electricity meter (so its size is visible)
- The distribution board with the cover open
- Where you want the charger
- The route from the board to the parking spot
The team quotes before you decide. If the site is too complex to assess from photos, we send a technician to look at it. Once the site is ready, a THB 2,000 deposit (deducted from the total) books the technician and installation date.
Step 3: Installation (3–5 hours)
On installation day the technician will:
- Install a breaker and residual-current protection dedicated to the charger
- Run the cable in conduit along the whole route
- Mount the wall charger on a wall or post in the agreed position
- Test voltage, current and earthing before handover
Step 4: Testing and handover
The technician test-charges your car in front of you and shows you how to use it. The warranty period depends on the model — see each product page.
How long does installation take?
- Typical home (short cable run, 1 phase): 3–4 hours
- Large home (long cable run or 3 phase): 5–8 hours
- Condo (juristic person approval needed): 1–3 days including processing
Why use technicians who specialise in EV chargers?
An EV charger draws power continuously for hours. The wrong cable, breaker or leakage protection risks earth leakage, electric shock and heat build-up.
EV Easy technicians are trained specifically in EV charger installation and understand home electrical systems and protection devices professionally. They check the supply before installing and test real charging before every handover.
Can an EV charger be installed in a condo?
Yes, but you need juristic person approval first. Usually you submit:
- Installer details
- The charger spec sheet
- A wiring diagram
Ask the EV Easy team on LINE @eveasy which documents you need.

Which charger can your home take?
The right charger depends on your meter size, your existing electrical panel and the distance from the panel to your parking spot — not just your car model. Send photos of your panel and parking spot on LINE and our team will give you a first assessment, or see the four installation options and their pros and cons on our installation service page.
