Which wall EV charger should you buy for your home in 2026?
Published

Short answer: most Thai homes have single-phase power, so a 7.4 kW charger already charges at the full power the home can supply. Pick a model with DC leakage protection (RCD Type B) and a clear warranty.
If your home has three-phase power or the charger goes outdoors, move up to a 22 kW model with a higher water rating. This article compares the models EV Easy sells and installs itself. Data and prices as of October 2026; see each product page for current prices.
What should you check when choosing a wall charger?
Check these 6 points in order. The first decides which models fit your home; the rest decide which is worth it.
- Your home's phase and what the car accepts. Single-phase power charges at up to 7.4 kW, even with a 22 kW charger. Only three-phase power can use 11 or 22 kW, and the car must accept three-phase charging too (check how many phases your car supports)
- Leakage protection. EVs can leak direct current (DC), which ordinary RCDs do not detect. You want RCD Type B or 6 mA DC leakage detection (is RCD Type B necessary?)
- Indoor or outdoor. Check the IP rating; the higher the second digit, the better the water protection. For direct rain, choose IP65 or higher, or use a charger cabinet
- Charger and installation warranty. Check both, and ask where claims go and who repairs
- App and control. Scheduled charging for off-peak (TOU) rates, charging history, start and stop from your phone
- Total installed price, not just the charger. Installation depends on the circuit, cable run and meter (home EV charger installation cost in 2026)
Comparing 4 wall chargers
| Model | Power supported | Water / impact rating | DC leakage protection | Screen | Cable | Charger warranty | Charger price from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Model Black Gen 2 | Single-phase 7.4 kW | IP55 / IK10 | Built-in RCD Type B | 5.6 in | 5 / 10 m | 3 years | THB 11,900 |
| Model U Gen 2 | Single-phase 7.4 kW · three-phase 11 / 22 kW | IP54 / IK10 | Built-in AC 30 mA + DC 6 mA detection | 3.5 in | 5 / 10 m | 3 years | THB 11,900 |
| Model Q | Single-phase 7.4 kW · three-phase 22 kW | IP66 / IK10 | Built-in RCD Type B | 7 in | 5 / 10 m | 5 years | THB 14,900 |
| Autel Maxi | Single-phase 7.4 kW · three-phase 22 kW | IP65 / IK10 | RCD Type B in the circuit | Depends on variant | 5 m | 5 years | THB 28,900 |
All models use the Type 2 connector (IEC 62196-2) used by most EVs in Thailand, and every EV Easy installation adds an RCD Type B breaker to the circuit. Prices in the table are for the 7.4 kW charger with a 5 m cable, installation not included.
Which model for a single-phase home?
Choose Model Black Gen 2 or Model U Gen 2; both start at THB 11,900.
- Model Black Gen 2 has RCD Type B built in, a large 5.6-inch screen and the most compact body in the range (291 x 238 x 95 mm). Good for homes that will stay single-phase
- Model U Gen 2 supports both single- and three-phase power, so the same charger keeps working if your home moves to three-phase. Available in black and silver
If your home runs many appliances at once and the meter is small, look at the With DLB models, which adjust charging power to what the home is actually using. Chargers from THB 13,400 (what is DLB?)
Which model for a three-phase home or an outdoor install?
Choose Model Q for the highest water rating in the range (IP66) and a 5-year charger warranty. The 22 kW charger starts at THB 17,900.
Choose Autel Maxi for businesses or sites that need to connect to an energy management system: it supports Ethernet (LAN), RS485, CAN and optional 4G, with a 5-year charger warranty.
Before choosing 22 kW, check how much three-phase power your car accepts. If the car only charges on single phase, a 22 kW charger will charge slower than you expect (why a 7 kW car charges at only 3.6 kW on an 11 kW charger)
How much does it cost with installation?
EV Easy home installation packages include the 7.4 kW charger with a 5 m cable and up to 15 m of wiring, VAT included.
| Package | Model U Gen 2 / Black Gen 2 | Model Q |
|---|---|---|
| Circuit 1 with charger | THB 19,900 | THB 23,400 |
| Circuit 2 with charger | THB 23,900 | THB 27,900 |
The main service area is Bangkok, the surrounding provinces and the East. See all packages and book a technician on the home EV charger installation page. Not sure which circuit your home needs? Read circuit 1 vs circuit 2
Can a single-phase home use a 22 kW charger?
Yes, but it charges at up to 7.4 kW, the most single-phase power can supply. It is only worth it if you plan to move to three-phase power; otherwise a 7.4 kW model costs less.
Do you need an RCD Type B if the charger has leakage protection?
Yes, because it is a separate layer of protection in the home's circuit. Every EV Easy installation includes an RCD Type B. Details are in the RCD Type B article
Summary
For a typical single-phase home, choose Model Black Gen 2 or Model U Gen 2. For three-phase homes or outdoor installs, choose Model Q. For businesses that need system integration, choose Autel Maxi.
