4 Common Reasons Your EV Won't Charge

An electric vehicle (EV) not charging, or not being able to start charging, is a problem many EV owners may have experienced. Sometimes it isn't caused by damage to the charger or the car, but by a simple cause that isn't hard to fix. The EV Easy Thailand team has put together the 4 most common reasons charging fails, along with basic checks, so you can keep using your charger safely and without interruption.

  • The charging connector isn't plugged in firmly. If the connector isn't fully inserted or is slightly tilted, the system may not start charging. Try plugging it in again firmly all the way, and listen for a "click" or look at the unit's status light.
  • The breaker isn't working, or the power has tripped. Check whether the main breaker and sub-breakers in the distribution board are still switched on. If you switch them on and the power trips again, check the breaker — for example, whether it is the correct 40A size and whether the terminals are properly connected.
  • The system has detected leakage or an abnormal current. Every EV Easy charger has automatic safety protection, such as residual current detection (RCD). If it detects an abnormal reading, the unit stops immediately to prevent danger.
  • Old or substandard wiring. Old or substandard household wiring can cause voltage drops or high temperatures, which can stop the car from charging.
